Lewis David Aldridge

Master Mariner

1858 - 1945

Return to Shaw Shipping Front Page

Lewis Aldridge  was a Severn trow owner living in Arlingham and in 1908 Hugh Shaw met Lewis’s son Captain Henry (Uncle Harry) Aldridge in Garston as Henry’s vessel was moored alongside.

The following September Hugh met Henry again in Southern Ireland, both loading for the Bristol Channel ports.  Henry suggested Hugh came home to Arlingham with him. There he met Henry’s Sister and Lewis’s daughter Norah.  The rest is history…… but started a commercial partnership between Lewis and Hugh involving buying and owning ships together.
